Teachers are now diplomatic immune in their own country to an extent. This secretive cult in which you must have a certificate to gain exclusive access to break the law. So it seems the long arm of the law is only on one hand, the other just waves at those who are believed to do good. Does this surprise me, No! In fact I promote the use of a non-copyright society in which there is a fair and consistent manner to learn. Equality of education should not be inhibited by the price of an education. As a moral society there is an understanding that our future assets are invaluable. So why, are children not on field trips and engaged with hands on exhibitions daily. Especially since it has been scientifically proven that a physical connection through a medium is much more ingrained than the thought of or mentioning of a learning experience.
Blant disregard for copyright laws are common throughout America and the rest of the world in all genres. A company knows there is a strong give take relationship between product purchase and the types of consumers. Let's say you purchased a book, and then recommended to your friend(or tagged it "like"as in Ping or facebook.com. your one friend may, steal the recommended book. Where as, the moral society you effect will purchase the book. You are now free advertisement and a great percentage of your six degrees of Kevin Bacon will purchase and not steal.
So Violation may not be the right word, more like planting the seed for the social circle you are involved with. Copyright respect may be morally invalid for me and it is hard to respect something you do not believe in. I will on the other hand, present all points of data on the subject of copyright laws, fairly.
Now, how could we top the Jeopardy idea? I will give it a shot! I am thinking to hone in on the digital native side of the students I would give the students a list of specific websites. From there the student must decide whether they can use the ideas presented in the website. I.E. logo design, overall idea, word usage and more. The students must investigate why or why not they could use the mentioned items. Also, if they can not use the item they find out how to go about getting permission. The NETS-S standards would be pretty easy to fill. So I will pick out a few that are right on the money.Research and Information Fluency,Creativity and Innovation,Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making these will be the one's I focus on the most.
