Digital Natives

Posted in 2001, the "Digital Natives" theory seems to hold true today.  We still have digital immigrants in our midst, I do not feel that a digital immigrant should be discriminated though.  In fact, they should be embraced.  The author tells a story of a digital immigrant not believing in watching television while learning, simply because the digital immigrant can not do both at the same time.  I feel the author has a misconception.  It is not that a digital immigrant can not do it, it is that there was such a thing as undivided attention.

Ironically, to complete this blog, I first copied the article. Second, sent it to itunes to convert it to spoken text, then listened to it all the while picking out specific references for use in the blog entry.  As a digital immigrant myself, I embrace the technology while still embracing the fact that digital natives must still focus specifically on the task at hand.  I guess you can call me old school!
"Future content," in my opinion will include "legacy content" but in a summation form.  For example, I am reading a book, yes an actual book, A Brief History of Everything.  This book in my ken is considered "future content" because it summarizes( brings me up to speed) of how specific events resulted into the thinking we have today. In conclusion, Mr. Prensky has chosen to write about one of those subjects of which the outcome will be, well what it is going to be.  As, of right now there is no mandatory system for digital immigrants to conform to digital natives, therefore just as most things the transition will be natural.
